Do you find it hard to make money from Carousell despite trying all sorts of methods? Well, I've been on Carousell for about 3 years and I have been using it almost daily to promote my business. Carousell is becoming the go-to marketplace for buying and selling used goods because of its user-friendly interface and wide reach. It has also been great for service-based businesses to promote themselves. Due to the low barrier of entry to becoming a seller on Carousell, its landscape has been increasingly competitive. So here are some tips to make your first thousand on Carousell:
Tip 1: Get your account verified
Get your account verified by registering for your singpass. With the increasing no. of scam cases going around in Singapore, people are getting more conscious when shopping on this platform. Doing this will allow buyers to have more assurance when buying items from you

Tip 2: Exchange feedback with sellers/buyers
Reviews play a pivotal role in establishing your credibility on Carousell. Prospective buyers and sellers frequently reference reviews to assess the reliability of a user before initiating any transactions or negotiations. Positive reviews not only instil confidence but also serve as a shield against potential pitfalls, sparing users from unpleasant encounters If you are looking to get reviews you do not have to just wait till someone sends an offer to buy your item. You can also look into the marketplace and buy some things that you may need. This can help you get reviews

Tip 3: Be prompt with your replies
Remember to turn on your notifications on Carousell so that you can reply to your customers quickly. Customers often are in a rush to get their items quickly, so replying fast can prevent your customers from going to other sellers in the marketplace.
Tip 4: Enable the BUY button
Yes, you heard me right! Carousell now has this feature called the buy button. However, some downside is that buyers may have to pay extra (commissions) which may deter them from using the buy button. However, you can always allow free delivery, reduce your prices, or meet up with them at a convenient location. This might spur them to buy your items because some buyers are willing to pay extra just for assurance. Additionally, buyers can still chat with you and negotiate on the price before they place an order. So, don't worry!
Tip 5: Keywords
Have you ever heard of SEO? It works the same way on Carousell! Remember to list as many attributes as you can on your products. This will allow you to match your user's search intent which can contribute to your sales. The more keywords you target, the more likely you are to appear on the top. Remember you can always get your friends to like your post even if they can't buy your items.

Tip 6: Take better pictures
Remember to always take pictures of items from different angles which includes the top, front, bottom, back, etc. You can use website professional pictures but something I realised is that many people always prefer pictures that you take. This shows customers that it is being tried and tested. Hence, it might spur them to start buying! Remember to always try to take your pictures in well-lit areas so that the colours are more detailed and less blurry.
Tip 7: Upselling
If buyers buy your item, you can always ask them if they would want anything else from your own store. This will prompt them to look at your profile. You may be surprised as some of them might end up actually buying 1-2 more items from you. Additionally, whenever you upload new items you can ask your old customers if they are interested, you can also give them discounts which can allow you to have repreated customers.
